According to the latest survey from Valve, it appears that only 34 percent of gamers on Steam are playing at 1920x1080 resolution. This comes as a big surprise since 1080p gaming has become mainstream and there is plenty of affordable hardware that can run most of the games at this resolution.
While most gamers are trying to keep up with hardware manufacturers and trying to get a playable frame-rate on native monitor resolution and pushing hard for high-resolution gaming and multi-monitor setups, it appears that not many users are using 1080p resolution. Although it has the highest percentage, there are still just 34 percent of gamers on Steam running at 1080p.
The report suggest that most gamers are focused on entry-level to mid-range systems and there aren't many gamers running high-end systems.
According to the same July 2015 hardware survey from Steam, while 34 percent of users are gaming at 1920x1080 resolution, 26 percent are running games on 1366x768 resolution. When it comes to multi-monitor setups, 29 percent of users are using 3840x1080 resolution.
On the CPU side, 48 percent of Steam users are running on a dual-core CPU while around 45 percent are using quad-core CPU. Intel dominates in the CPU race with 75 percent while AMD holds just around 25 percent.
The Steam survey also shows that Nvidia is usually a favorite graphics card with over 52 percent while AMD and Intel hold around 27 and 20 percent, respectively.
While the survey results might be surprising, they also make sense as MOBA games, like DOTA, are quite popular and you don't exactly need a high-end rig to play those games.
