AMD announces FirePro S9170 32GB compute card

First one with 32GB of memory

AMD has announced its newest FirePro S-series server graphics card that will pack no less than 32GB of memory, the FirePro S9170.

Based on the success of the AMD FirePro S9150, the new AMD FirePro S9170 provides 5.2 TFLOPS of single-precision and 2.6 TFLOPS of double-precision compute performance and is actually the first such graphics card that pack 32GB of GDDR5 memory with ECC.

Paired up with a 512-bit memory interface, the FirePro S9170 provides up to 320GB/s of memory bandwidth. Same as the FirePro S9150, it packs 2816 GCN Stream Processors and, according to AMD, is currently the most efficient GPU available for data centers.

It uses dual-slot form-factor with passive cooling and will be available in two versions, with 275W TDP and 235W TDP, which will probably have lower clocks. In addition to more memory, the FirePro S9170 also is slightly higher clocked at 930MHz, compared to 900MHz on the FirePro S9150.

As it was the case for all AMD Hawaii and Tahiti GPU based AMD FirePro graphics cards, including S9100, S9150 and the new S9170, there is support for OpenMP 4.0 and OpenAcc.

Unfortunately, AMD did not reveal any details regarding the price, but the new FirePro S9170 should be available for AMD partners in Q3 2015.
