AMD has silently cut the price of its 28nm Tonga GPU based Radeon R9 285 down to €180 in Europe, which makes the R9 285 cheaper than Nvidia's GTX 960.
While previously selling for above €200 in Europe, AMD is apparently working with EU retailers and partners in cutting down the price of the Radeon R9 285 graphics card, and some stores already list it for €180 inc. tax,
according to the report from Hardware.fr. While this makes the R9 285 both cheaper and faster than the GTX 960, it still has a higher power consumption and some noise problems.
In case you missed it, AMD's Radeon R9 285 is based on 28nm Tonga GPU with 1792 Stream Processors, 112 TMUs, 32 ROPs and comes with 2GB of GDDR5 memory on a 256-bit memory interface.
Unfortunately, it appears that this price cut might be limited to Europe only but hopefully we will see it extend to other regions as well. It is also possible that AMD is clearing stock ahead of the Radeon Rx 300 series launch so it is possible that the rest of the AMD Rx 200 series lineup will get a similar price drop.
