Back when Samsung unveil its two new flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge, the specifications and first hands-on impressions were quite impressive but we did not have any details regarding the battery life and it appears that it is not as good as expected, despite the 14nm Exynos 7420 SoC.
While it did have a slightly underpowered 2550mAh battery, it was generally expected that the Galaxy S6 battery life will greatly benefit from Samsung's own 14nm Exynos 7420 SoC, at least compared to Qualcomm's 20nm Snapdragon 810. Unfortunately, judging from
recently published Galaxy S6 battery test over at GSMArena.com, Galaxy S6 does not impress when it comes to battery life as it was outperformed by last year flagships including Samsung's own Galaxy S5, Sony's Xperia Z3, LG's G3 and even OnePlus One in some scenarios.
According to the results, Samsung Galaxy S6 managed to get a 64h endurance rating with 17:29h of 3G talk time, 8:44h of web browsing and 10:24h of video playback. This is, unfortunately, even worse than the Galaxy S5 which had an endurance rating of 72h and way behind Sony Xperia Z3 with 85h endurance rating.
While Samsung managed to make the Galaxy S6 as well as the S6 Edge, thinner and much more sleek due to dual-glass design, it apparently sacrificed the battery life and even 14nm Exynos 7420 SoC did not help.
There are rumors that final firmware for the Galaxy S6 might somewhat improve the battery life but we are not sure if it will be enough to even put it in the same league with last year flagships.
