While true gaming notebooks are usually more of a desktop replacement systems that are both large and heavy, ASUS has decided to announce a new Republic of Gamers G501 ultra-slim gaming notebook based on a 15.6-inch 4K/UHD screen, Intel's Core i7 CPU and Nvidia Geforce GTX 960M graphics card.
The key feature of the new ASUS ROG G501 notebook is its impressive 15.6-inch matte IPS panel screen with 4K/UHD 3840x2160 resolution. Apparently, there will be a version of the G501 with 1920x1080 resolution panel as well. Based on Intel's HM87 chipset, the new ASUS ROG G501 notebook will also come with Intel's Core i7-4720HQ 47W TDP Haswell CPU, up to 16GB of DDR3 memory and Nvidia's Geforce GTX 960M Maxwell graphics card with either 2GB or 4GB of video memory.
With precise dimensions of the all aluminum-chassis set at 383x255x20.6mm and weighing in at 2.06kg, it is obvious that the ROG G501 is a very compact machine. There will be plenty of SKUs to choose from and the rest of the specification will include 2.5-inch SATA 6Gbps HDD with up to 1TB of capacity or SATA 6Gbps 128GB or 256GB SSD or PCIe x4 512GB SSD, 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0, three USB 3.0 ports and HDMI output and either 60Wh or 96Wh battery, depending on the SKU.
It is cooled by ASUS' exclusive HyperCool technology which uses dual fans and copper heatsinks, which should ensure maximum cooling potential with minimum noise, according to ASUS. It also comes with red-backlit keyboard with marked WASD cluster and 1.6mm key travel and ASUS SonicMaster audio with ICEpower/Bang & Olufsen technology.
All these specifications will come at a price so the ASUS ROG G501 will start at US $1,999 and with PCIe x4 512GB SSD, 16GB of RAM and other goodies, we are sure that price will climb up way higher.
