Although we mostly knew most of the details regarding the upcoming Apple Watch, the company has revealed a bit more details including prices, shipping and pre-order date and a big surprise regarding the Apple Watch Edition, its price.
During Spring Forward event held last night, Apple's CEO Tim Cook unveiled more details regarding the upcoming Apple Watch, including prices for different models, shipping and pre-order dates. As we know earlier, Apple's Watch will be available in three different main versions with various strap options that can significantly raise the price.
The Apple Watch Sport, or the base version, will be made out of special aluminum alloy which is, at least according to Apple, 60 percent tougher than regular alloys. The Apple Watch Sport version will be available in 38mm and 42mm versions which will start at US $349 and US $399, respectively.
Next version is simply called the Apple Watch, and can be considered as the mainstream version which most of the buyers will go for. This one will have a stainless steel body and will have a wide choice of straps and it will also be available in 38mm and 42mm versions. The price for the 38mm will go from US $549 and climb all the way up to US $1049, while the 42mm version will start at US $599 and go all the way up to US $1099.
The one thing that everyone was waiting for is the third version, the Apple Watch Edition. This one is made out of 18K gold and will be a limited edition device, which is not surprising considering its price. It will also be available in 38mm and 42mm versions and start at US $10,000 for the 38mm one and US $12,000 for the 42mm versions. The price will climb even higher depending on the strap choice, so there will be plenty of room to raise the price even further.
The Apple Watch pre-orders will start on April 10th, when customers will also be able to try the Apple Watch Sport and the Apple Watch in Apple retail stores. These two versions, and probably the Watch Edition as well, will ship as of April 24th in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, UK and the US, while rest of the world should get it at a later date.
