Nvidia working on new Tegra X1-powered Shield Tablet

Could be coming in March

According to the latest report, Nvidia might be working on a new Shield Tablet that should be powered by the new Tegra X1 SoC and unveiled at GTC 2015 scheduled for March.

According to the report coming from Fudzilla.com, Nvidia is working on the new Shield Tablet that will be powered by Tegra X1 SoC. The current Shield Tablet is powered by Tegra K1 SoC and has been unveiled back in July last year with price set at US $299 for the WiFi-only version.

In case you missed it back when it was announced in January, the new Tegra X1 SoC is based on an octa-core 64-bit design featuring four Cortex-A57 and four Cortex-A53 cores paired up with a 256-core Maxwell GPU, which makes it twice as powerful compared to the Kepler GPU in the Tegra K1.

While there are still no specific details regarding the rest of the specifications for the new Shield Tablet, it is likely that Nvidia will keep the same US $299 starting price and keep the same 1080p screen found on the current Shield Tablet. Of course, nothing is carved in stone as Nvidia might push the tablet to 1440p or even UHD/4K screen since it has enough GPU performance to do it.

In any case GTC 2015 is coming soon and we will most likely hear and see more about the new Shield Tablet as we draw closer to that event.
