Razer announces Forge TV Android console

Android and PC gaming in living room

Razer has brought a rather interesting surprise to CES 2015 show in the form of the Forge TV, an Android based console that will allow you to play Android games as well as stream your PC games to your favorite large-screen living room TV.

Based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 805 SoC with quad-core Krait 450 CPU, Adreno 420 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of flash storage, Razer Forge TV measures at 105X105X17mm (4.1x4.1x0.7 inches). The rest of the specifications include 802.11ac 2x2 MIMO WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1 + HS, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0 and HDMI 1.4 output. It runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS and will be able to run all Android games and have huge selection of content and apps from Google Play Store.

What is even more important is that it will be able to stream your PC games via Razer's own Cortex Stream software, which should launch in beta version in Spring 2015. According to Razer, it will allow ultra-low latency gaming at resolution of up to 1080p for all DirectX 9 or newer games.

In addition to the Forge TV Android console, Razer also announced a few accessories to go with it, including the Serval and Turret. The Serval is a gamepad that looks a lot like the Xbox one and was designed by the same guys that did Razer Sabertooth controller.

The Serval can be used both with the Forge TV console as well as Android smartphone thanks to "adjustable game clip". The Turret on the other hand is a bit more interesting, as it appears to be a gaming keyboard that comes with a 3500 DPI ambidextrous mouse and has an integrated mouse pad in order to be usable in the lap, so it is basically a lapboard with keyboard and a mouse.

According to Razer, the Forge TV will be available in the Q1 2015 for US $99.99 or US $149.99 when bundled with the Serval gamepad, which costs US $79.99 on its own, while Cortex Stream Software will be available separately for US $39.99. The Turret lapboard keyboard and mouse will be available for US $129.99 sometime in the second quarter.
