Alleged AMD R9 390X Fiji GPU specifications show up

Fiji XT core detailed

There are a lot of rumors showing up regarding AMD's upcoming next-gen GPU, codename Fiji, which should show up as the Radeon R9 390X graphics card, and today we have alleged specifications coming from SiSoft Sandra online database.

Spotted by Wccftech.com, the first piece of information came from Zauba, a database for import-export data, which suggest that AMD has already sent out Fiji XT GPU based PCB testing boards around the world.

There is also a leaked picture of a prototype hybrid air+liquid cooler which should be used on the R9 390X graphics card.

But the most interesting piece of information comes from SiSoft Sandra database, which listed an unknown AMD high-end GPU, most likely the Fiji XT, and reveals 4096 Stream Processors, 1GHz GPU clock and 4GB of GDDR5 memory. The second listed GPU features 3520 Stream Processors and 1050MHz GPU clock, suggesting that we will possibly see the Fiji Pro GPU as well which should be the one behind the R9 390 graphics card.

There are still a lot of unknowns, as it is still not clear if the upcoming Fiji GPU will be based on current 28nm manufacturing process or the new 20nm manufacturing process. Nvidia will be skipping 20nm manufacturing process and go from 28nm directly to 16nm FinFET one, most likely with its new GM200 GPU.

AMD on the other hand will definitely use the 20nm manufacturing process, and judging from recent reports from Digitimes, TSMC is ramping up 20nm volume and expects double the revenue in Q4, which also might suggest that AMD's Fiji GPU will be made at TSMC and at 20nm.

AMD needs a good GPU in order to compete with Nvidia's Maxwell architecture and hopefully Fiji is the one that they have been waiting.
