Western Digital has updated its line of HDDs meant for video surveillance applications with the new WD Purple 6TB HDD model.
According to Western Digital, WD Purple line are purpose-built HDDs designed specifically for video surveillance workloads and include enhancements to reduce dropped frames and allow simultaneous recording from up to 32 HD cameras.
Since security cameras are now used in more applications than ever and since we are on the verge of 4K HD models, this has created the need for higher HDD capacity and WD Purple will now be available with up to 6TB.
The WD Purple line of HDDs also come with a few WD proprietary technologies that will boost performance as well as video recording accuracy, including the AllFrame, which in conjunction with ATA streaming reduces video frame loss, improves playback and increases the number of drive bays supported as well as the IntelliSeek Technology which, with low power consumption, plays a crucial role in high-temperature always-on surveillance environments.
According to Western Digital, the WD Purple 6TB model will have an MSRP of US $329.99 and the WD Purple lineup is now available in capacities ranging from 1TB to 6TB.
