In addition to new iPads, OS X Yosemite and the new Mac mini, Apple has also unveiled the new and earlier rumored desktop all-in-one 27-inch iMac Retina 5K, which will feature AMD Radeon R9 M290X or the R9 M295X graphics card.
With a mind-boggling resolution of 5120x2880, Apple calls the new iMac 5K Retina the worlds highest resolution desktop display screen with seven times more pixels than your average 1080p monitor. Design wise, the iMac is not bad at all as the screen itself is a mere 5mm thin.
Specification wise, the entry-level version, or basic one, starts with Intel Core i5 3.5GHz clocked quad-core CPU paired up with 8GB (2x4GB) of DDR3-1600 memory and 2GB Radeon R9 M290X GPU. The CPU can be upgraded to 4GHz clocked Intel Core i7 quad-core CPU while graphics card can be upgraded to AMD Radeon R9 M295X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory.
The base version also comes with a Fusion drive as standard as well as Thunderbolt 2 and starts at US $2,499.
Of course, you can still upgrade it with up to 32GB RAM, which adds up to US $600 to the price, Core i7 CPU which adds US $250, Radeon R9 M295X 4GB which adds another US $250, 1TB Flash storage, which adds US $800, as well as other accessories and software which can take you well above US $4,000.
Apple will also still keep selling the regular iMacs with 21.5-inch screen starting at US $1,099 and the 27-inch without 5K Retina display starting at US $1,799.
