While we have already seen that PC shipments were up last quarter, it does not come as a big surprise that Intel is now reporting record revenue and shipments for Q3 2014. Intel managed to score US $14.6 billion in revenue and over shipments of over 100 million microprocessors in a single quarter.
Intel managed to beat earlier analyst forecast which was set at US $14.44 billion by reporting US $14.6 billion for Q3 2014. This is an eight percent boost from the same quarter last year and up by 5 percent compared to the last quarter. Intel also reported an operating income of US $4.5 billion which is up by 30 percent compared to US $3.5 billion in the same quarter last year and up by 18 percent compared to US $3.8 billion in Q2 2014, or previous quarter this year.
According to Intel's report, the PC Client Group reported revenue of US $9.2 billion which is up by 9 percent compared to last year while Data Center Group scored US $3.7 billion in revenue or up by 16 pecent compared to the previous year. The Internet of Things Group also grew by 14 percent compared to the last year, reporting revenue of US $530 million, while rest of the departments were pretty much consistent with expectations.
Intel even expects higher US $14.7 billion (+/- $500 million) revenue in the Q4 2014, which suggest that its strategy is certainly paying off.
"We are pleased by the progress the company is making," said Intel CEO Brian Krzanich. "We achieved our best-ever revenue and strong profits in the third quarter. There is more to do, but our results give us confidence that we're successfully executing to our strategy of extending our products across a broad range of exciting new markets."
