Following the recent report from Wccftech.com, which spotted the price cut in a couple of retail/e-tail shops, we reported that AMD has cut prices of the Radeon R9 290 and Radeon R9 290X graphics cards but according to a fresh report, citing AMD's Richard Huddy, these price cuts did not come from AMD but are rather a move from AMD add-in-board partners.


According to the report over at Hexus.net, AMD's executives are "agitated" with the fact that press assumed that these price cuts came from AMD. While in the UK XFX is having a blast by selling its Radeon R9 290 and R9 290X at an adjusted price, some other partners are sticking to older prices.

Earlier report showed that many US based e-tailers like Newegg.com and Amazon.com are adjusting the price of both the Radeon R9 290 and the R9 290X but it appears that this is solely a move made by AMD AIB partners, rather than AMD itself.

Nvidia has definitely caught AMD by surprise with both the GTX 980 and especially the GTX 970 which simply offer better performance per watt and price. It appears that while AMD is currently looking for the best move to counter-attack, its own partners are trying hard counter Nvidia's launch.

Hopefully AMD will stand behind its partners and we will see even lower prices or some other response from AMD soon.
