K|ngp|n closing in on 2.2GHz on GTX 980

EVGA GTX 980 Classified is impressive overclocker

According to the newest released screenshot, Vince "K|ngp|n" Lucido is closing in on 2.2GHz on the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Classified graphics card and while the result is still not validated, it is quite impressive to see how far the GM204 Maxwell GPU can be actually pushed.

We already wrote that the GTX 980 managed to break the same 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme world record twice in the same day, as both K|ngp|n and Elmor have been doing some overclocking sessions yesterday.

While Elmor still holds the world record on HWBOT.org, we now have a screenshot which shows that Vince "K|ngp|n" Lucido managed to push the EVGA GTX 980 Classified to a rather impressive 2168MHz for the GPU and 2203MHz for the memory, which allowed him to get 9617 marks in that same 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme benchmark.

Unfortunately, the result is still not on HWBOT.org and Elmor still holds the first place there but the score is actually validated on Futuremark's 3DMark Hall of Fame site showing it as a valid result.

Vince "K|ngp|n" Lucido is probably still benching that same graphics card and hopefully he will not run out of LN2 before we see yet another great score.
