On Friday, Nvidia released the new Gefore 900 series graphics cards, based on Maxwell architecture. As you might already know, the GM204 is just the second step when it comes to Maxwell architecture, and we are still waiting for higher end chips, probably featured on the GTX 980 Ti or GTX 990.
During the same day, an MSI representative spilled the beans about the company’s plans for future graphics cards. It looks like MSI will not present a Lightning version of the GTX 980, because they want to wait for a more powerful card. Thanks to this information, we can assume that Nvidia will release more powerful cards in the near future, even though we still have no information about the chip itself, or the name of the actual cards. We do know that Nvidia is working on the GM206 chip, which will be featured in the upcoming GTX 960, to be released in mid-October.
Anyway, for what we have seen on the MSI GTX 970 Gaming, the new Twin Frozr V cooler is more than enough to keep the GPU under 70° even in full load, thus it would be unnecessary to put on the card another cooler.
