AMD might have cancelled Tonga XT R9 285X

Reason might be the GTX 970

It appears that very aggressive price for the Geforce GTX 970 might have forced AMD to change its plans regarding the launch of the Tonga XT powered Radeon R9 285X as according to fresh reports, AMD might have actually cancelled that same graphics card.

Earlier this month AMD have released the Tonga Pro equipped Radeon R9 285, which packed 1792 Stream Processors and according to our sources, the Tonga XT equipped Radeon R9 285X with 2048 Stream Processors was coming sometime later this month.

According to AMD's Robert Hallock and his post on Twitter, caught by Computerbase.de, where he say that AMD is currently only releasing the R9 285, has started a neat rumor that the R9 285X might be actually delayed or even cancelled.

The recent change in the launch price of the Geforce GTX 970 might be the main reason for he delay or the cancelling of the Radeon R9 285X, as at US $329, the GTX 970 will certainly have a decent performance per buck ratio.

Hopefully this is just AMD's way of saying that they do not comment on future products and that Radeon R9 285X will eventually launch by the end of this month or early next month.
