A total of four graphics cards
Sapphire has now officially announced four graphics cards that will be a part of its Radeon R9 285 lineup based on the new AMD 28nm Tonga Pro GPU, two based on Sapphire's Dual-X series and two as a part of the new Sapphire ITX Compact series.
In case you missed it back when it was officially announced, AMD's R9 285 graphics card is based on the new 28nm Tonga Pro GPU with 1792 Stream Processors, 112 TMUs, 32 ROPs and a 256-bit memory interface paired up with either 2 or 4GB of GDDR5 memory. The AMD reference clocks are set at 918MHz for the GPU and 1375MHz (5.5GHz effective) for the memory. Since it is based on AMD's GCN 1.1 architecture, it features AMD TrueAudio technology and should support AMD's Mantle API.
Although revealed back when AMD has announced its new Radeon R9 285 graphics card, Sapphire's Radeon R9 285 lineup starts with well known Dual-X series.
Sapphire has decided to launch two R9 285 in this series, including reference clocked Dual-X version and factory-overclocked R9 285 Dual-X OC Edition. While the first on sticks to AMD's reference 918MHz for the GPU and 1375MHz (5.5GHz effective) for the 2GB of GDDR5 memory, the OC Edition ends up working at 965MHz for the GPU and 1400MHz (5.6GHz effective) for the same 2GB of GDDR5 memory.
The Dual-X cooled is already known from some of Sapphire's previously released graphics cards and features set of graduated heatpipes as well as two aerofoil fans, a design that should keep the Tonga Pro based R9 285 well cooled.
In addition to the Dual-X Edition R9 285 graphics cards, Sapphire has also unveiled two models in the new ITX Compact series, one with reference clocks and other with slight factory-overclock, as the OC Edition.
The new Sapphire ITX Compact series is aimed at SFF PCs and features a shorter 171mm long custom PCB as well as a new quad-heatpipe cooler with a single center placed fan. While the standard Sapphire R9 285 ITX Compact sticks to reference 918MHz for the GPU and 5.5GHz for 2GB of GDDR5 memory, the OC Edition has a slightly overclocked GPU to 928MHz.
Unfortunately, Sapphire did not reveal any details regarding the price but we guess we will see them on retail/e-tail shelves as of September 2nd so we will have more details.
