AMD Radeon R9 285 with Tonga GPU pictured

Still no precise specifications

We are definitely getting closer to AMD R9 285 graphics card launch date and today we have a couple of pictures showing some of those graphics cards from various AMD AIB partners including Sapphire, XFX and HIS.

All three pictured graphics cards, caught by Videocardz.com, show a pretty much the same design with a standard dual-slot, dual-fan graphics card. All three will be based on AMD's new 28nm Tonga GPU which should be quite similar to earlier Tahiti GPU, but with higher clocks and a 256-bit memory interface.

The list of pictured R9 285 graphics cards start with Sapphire and its version with Dual-X cooler.

The XFX version is pretty much the same except for the Double Dissipation (DD) cooler.

The last but not the least is the HIS R9 285 IceQ X² which is also equipped with dual-slot dual-fan cooler.

All AMD R9 285 Tonga based graphics cards should be pretty much the same with 2GB of GDDR5 memory, although some AIB partners might also decide to do a 4GB version as well. Another interesting information is the lack of the Crossfire connector since the R9 285 will have XDMA Crossfire, similar to the entire R9 290 series. All of the pictured graphics card feature the same HDMI, DisplayPort and two DVI display outputs.

Unfortunately, it is still not clear if the R9 285 will be based on the Tonga Pro or Tonga XT GPU and since earlier information suggested that it should have the same amount of Stream Processors as the Tahiti GPUs, the R9 285 can end up with either 1792 or 2048 Stream Processors.
