ASRock launches two Pentium J2900 motherboards

The Q2900-ITX and Q2900M

ASRock has launched two new motherboards which will feature integrated Intel Pentium J2900 quad-core Bay Trail SoC, the mini-ITX Q2900-ITX and the micro-ATX Q2900M.

Both motherboards are based on Intel's Pentium J2900 quad-core Bay Trail SoC, which works at 2.4GHz base and 2.66GHz Turbo Boost clocks, pack 2MB of L2 cache, has 10W TDP and feature Intel Ivy Bridge HD Graphics working between 688 and 896MHz.

The rest of the specs for the smaller mini-ITX Q2900-ITX include two DDR3 SO-DIMM memory slot, single PCI-Express 2.0 x1 slot, mini PCIe 2.0 slot, two SATA 6Gbps and two SATA 3Gbps ports, four USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, DVI and D-Sub display outputs, Gigabit Ethernet and 7.1-channel HD audio.

The larger ASRock micro-ATX Q2900M motherboard pretty much packs the same features but has standard DDR3 DIMM slots instead of the SO-DIMM ones, has additional PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slot, additional PCIe 2.0 x1 slot and 5.1-channel HD audio.

Most importantly and since they are based on on a 10W TDP chip, both motherboards feature a passive cooling system.

Unfortunately, ASRock did not reveal any details regarding the price or the availability date for these two motherboards but these will surely have some tough competition from AMD's APU lineup.
