Evan Blass (@evleaks) announces his retirement

Tech community joins for a fund raiser

A recent retirement announcement from Evan Blass, known as @evleaks on Twitter, has definitely stirred up the tech community, which is not that surprising considering the amount of smartphone and other leaks that came from his Twitter account. The main reason of his retirement are his health issues and money, which pushed the tech community to start a fundraising campaign on IndieGoGo.com aimed to bring back @evleaks.

Evan Blass started his career at Engadget and his "recent" leaks regarding Samsung, HTC, LG, Microsoft and many other manufacturers at @evleaks Twitter account are well known in the tech industry. Unfortunately, due to a couple of issues, mostly money related, @evleaks has decided for an early retirement in order to look for more steady source of income.

According to an interview he gave for The Next Web earlier, the main reason regarding his retirement is the fact that it was close to impossible to get cash from both his Twitter account or even the evleaks.at website since most users browsing the net today use some sort of ad-blocker.

To make things worse, Evan has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis which was a major hit on its financial situation, which is yet another reason for looking into other things and closing @evleaks. Evan hopes that other leakers will be able to pick up the slack and give us fresh info regarding future products.

Tech community might not be big but it did not take long for them to show how important and close it actually is since we already have a fundraiser campaign over at IndieGogo.com aimed to help Evan with his situation and hopefully it will reach its goal in a matter of days.
