Sony has declined EA's offer to work with the company on the recently launched subscription-based service called the EA Access as, according to Sony, it offers poor value.
EA has recently
announced the EA Access, a Netflix like subscription service which gives you access to some of the EA games for a flat rate of US $4.99 a month or US $29.99 annually. Currently in its beta phase, the EA Access offers FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2 and Battlefield 4 games.
Apparently, EA offered Sony a chance to work on EA Access but Sony declined the offer as "it does not bring the kind of value Playstation customers have come to expect". This does not come as a surprise considering that Sony also offers subscription based service on Playstation console, the PLaystation Plus, which charges subscription fee and gives you access to some full games and special offers each month.
In an interview with
Game Informer, Sony's representative said that Sony has "evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect. PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price. We don't think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer."
EA's Access might sound like a nice deal but both Microsoft and Sony has been doing that same game for a while longer.
