AMD has apparently decided on the name for the upcoming graphics card based on Tonga GPU and it appears that we might see the new Radeon R9 285 in late August or early September.
According to the report from SweClockers.com, the upcoming Radeon R9 285 will be based on a Tonga Pro GPU which suggest that it is possible that we might see the Tonga XT GPU sometime in future, possibly as a Radeon R9 285X graphics card.
In case you missed it earlier, the AMD Tonga GPU is practically a Tahiti GPU and features the same amount of Streaming Processor but with a narrower memory interface. With this in mind, you can expect the new Tonga-based graphics cards to feature 2GB of GDDR5 memory (although partner might launch 4GB versions as well) paired up with a 256-bit memory interface and to replace Tahiti-based R9 280 and the R9 280X in next few months.
Unfortunately we still do not have any details regarding the price.
