During the Worldwide Partner Conference, Microsoft announced that a few of its partner are going to release new systems that will effectivly compete with Chromebooks.
Chromebooks are selling pretty good on US market, and they will be available shortly with new MediaTek chips and even lower prices. Microsoft is trying to compete on this same market, lowering the price of the Windows licence and using its powerful partners.
During the conference HP announced a new portable device for under 199$, and a Surface-like product for only 99$. We still don't have any information about the specifications, but Acer and Toshiba announced similar products for only 250$.
Microsoft will lower the price of Windows licence to compete at its best on this particular market. We sure hope that its partner won't try to get the best revenues out of it using cheap hardware, because this could backfire to Microsoft, since cheap hardware won't give an enjoyable user experience.
