The Akiba PC Hotline crew discovered, completely out of the blue, a bunch of Panasonic SSDs. This sounds really surprising, sincere there’s been no kind of advertisment about it.
These Panasonic SSDs feature a Barefoot M10 controller by OCZ and 19nm MLC NAND memory chips by Toshiba.
An SSD expert will instantly notice that these drives are basically a Vertex 460, by they are called “Premium” and they are sold by Panasonic. They’re available in 120, 240 and 480GB with 530/420MB/s, 540/525MB/s and 545/525MB/s of performance for sequential read and write, while when it comes to random read and write, they go as high as 80000/90000IOPS, 85000/90000IOPS and 95000/90000IOPS.
The 120GB version is sold for 8980¥, roughly 65€, which is a pretty good deal since the Vertex 460 costs 90€. Looks like Panasonic has a stock of SSDs that need to be sold, maybe they got that from some kind of deal and they don’t know what to do about it. We hope to see these drives in Europe too, since they are sold for a very interesting price.
