PC gaming hardware worth US $21.5 billion

Twice that of the console gaming market

According to a report coming from Jon Peddie Research market analyst firm, the PC gaming hardware worth US $21.5 billion which is over twice the worth of the console gaming market.

While the general PC hardware market is declining due to the high impact of tablets and other mobile devices, the gaming specific hardware was apparently unaffected and will grow significantly over next three years as PC gamers are now investing more in high end gaming components, according to the report.

Ted Pollak, senior gaming analyst at JPR, noted that while casual users are moving to mobile devices, PC gamers are the one that are investing more in high-end systems and are only interested in the ability to play games at highest possible settings as well as do video/photo editing, content creation and any other task on their high-end PC systems.

"We continue to see a shift in casual console customers moving to mobile. While this is also occurring in the lower-end PC gaming world, more money is being directed to mid- and high-range builds and upgrades by gamers. Committed PC gamers are generally not interested in pure content consumption platforms. They are power users and pay thousands for the ability to play games at very high settings and then do business, video/photo editing, content creation and other tasks with maximum horsepower at their disposal in a desktop ergonomic environment, " said Ted Pollak, JPR Senior Analyst.

According to JPR, the current US $21.5 billion PC gaming hardware is expected to rise to US $23.2 billion by 2017.

Jon Peddie, president of JPR, was keen to note that Nvidia, Intel and AMD have enthusiast class CPUs and GPU that are so powerful that, when combined with SSDs and fast memory, simply "trounce the computing power and gaming capabilities of the newest console generation". While consoles can satisfy the need on an average gamer, an ability to push 3840×2160 (4K), which is already a reality for the highest end configurations and 2560×1440 has becoming a standard for the mass market, PC gamers can enjoy much better graphics than console gamers, which translates to overall better gaming experience.
