Those streaming dongles which can be used on standard TVs are becoming more and more interesting. While Chromecast, by Google, managed to reach Europe and is selling pretty good, and even Dell unveiled the Wyse Cloud Connect, today we discovered that Mozilla is also planning to release a more open and free version pretty soon.
Whether you are talking about the Chromecast or the Wyse Cloud Connect, Google is always there. The Chromecast is based on Chrome OS, while Dell’s product is Android based.
A lot of people do not like Google's policy when it comes to privacy or content analysis, and that is why Mozilla decided to create their own version of a streaming dongle, based on the Firefox OS. The GigaOM crew managed to get its hands on one of the prototypes, and they released a brief review.
Despite the fact that the project is far from being completed, we already know that Mozilla will implement all Goggle services (Youtube streaming in particular) to lure as many users as possible on their platform, instead of letting them choose the Google solution because it offers more.
Even if it might not subvert the market, this new Mozilla dongle could heat up the competition in this particular market, which always mean more innovations and lower prices. You can watch the entire video which was shot by the GigaOM guys right here.
