Despite the fact that it bears the word “Steam”, this project has nothing to do with Valve, and it has been created by a spanish company and called the SteamBoy Machine. Their aim is to let everybody use their Steam library, no matter where they are.
The project has been displayed with a promotional video during the E3 show, and it looks a lot like a Steam controller paired up with an additional 5” touchscreen 16:9 display.
It is still unclear whether this is a real thing or just a publicity stunt. If this is going to be real, we have to expect at least a quad-core CPU (ARM or x86?), 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and two models with different Internet connection modules, at first they are going to produce a WiFi model, but after a while we should see a WiFi+3G model.
There are no other information about the project, but we do know that Steam OS and Steam are not available on ARM processors, so it is more logical to imagine a low-power x86 CPU to be the heart of this console. Valve did not say anything about the project, so we will have to wait until 2015 to see if this is going to be real or not.
