According to the report from Expreview.com, Nvidia's upcoming 20nm Maxwell-based 800 series desktop graphics cards will not only be more powerful than the 700 series but also cheaper, which is definitely a great news for consumers.
The report focuses on the GTX 880 and since TSMC has finally started 20nm volume production, which will include both AMD and Nvidia as customers, the first chips based on it are expected in early 2015 or, in best case scenario, late 2014.
According to the same report, the upcoming GTX 880 and the GTX 880 Ti graphics card will be much more powerful but also cheaper than the GTX 780 and the GTX 780 Ti graphics cards. Of course, these are still just rumors and nothing is carved in stone.
While this sounds like a far fetched info, considering that Nvidia was never shy on putting a high price tag on its graphics cards, like for example the US $2999 priced GTX Titan Z, it might be that the company sales were down due to high price forcing it to reconsider its strategy and put more pressure on AMD. Of course, all these informations should be taken with a grain of salt considering that these are still just rumors.
In any case we are still far away from the launch of 20nm GPUs so we will probably hear a lot more about it as we draw closer to the end of the year.
