Alienware unveils the Alpha system at E3 2014

US $549 priced Steam Machine

During E3 2014 show, Alienware has officially announced its entry Steam Machine Alpha gaming system designed to take over any living room.

While the Steam OS and the Steam Controller are not quite ready yet, Alienware has apparently decided to go ahead with its Steam Machine design and bundle it with the Microsoft Windows 8.1 OS and Microsoft's Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, now that the official drivers are finally available.

The base model of the Alienware Alpha will feature Intel's Haswell-based Core i3 CPU, a "custom-built" Maxwell GPU with 2GB of GDDR5 VRAM , 4GB of DDR3-1600 memory, 500GB of HDD space for all the game, integrated 801.11ac dual-band 1x1 WiFi and Bluetooth, both HDMI-out and HDMI-in ports, Gigabit Ethernet, couple of USB 2.0 and 3.0 port, optical audio out and a US $549 price tag.

As expected, the Alienware Alpha will be offered in custom-built configurations with Intel Core i5 and Core i7 Haswell CPUs, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, 1 or 2TB SATA 6Gbps HDD and better dual-band 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi.

As it is meant to be plugged to the TV in your living room, the Alienware Alpha will not ship with a keyboard and mouse but with Microsoft's Xbox 360 Wireless Controller.

According to details given by Alienware, the Windows 8.1 OS will have some sort of custom user interface which will run on top of the OS and look similar to the Steam Big Picture mode. The Alienware Alpha PC system is expected to be available during this holiday season.
