Yesterday, we've published the first pictures from ASUS' brandnew and first ever PCI Express SSD. The RAIDR is a highly anticipated PCI Express Drive, where great performance is expected. At this point we want to give a brief overview how quick this drive really is.
In order to do so we ran, Atto, Crystal Disk Mark and ASSSD Benchmark. ASUS itself promises that this drive should be able to hit up to 830 MB/s sequential read and 810 MB/s sequential write. When it comes to random read and write performance 100'000 IOPS should be possible in both cases.
We can see from the results, that this drive is not capable of reaching the performance advertised by the manufacturer. Using Atto we measured 778 MB/s for sequential write and 787 MB/s for sequential read. In case of Crystal Disk Mark we measured 689 MB/s sequential read and 538 MB/s sequential write performance, which is quite less than advertised by quite a margin. Testing with ASSSD we see 701 MB/s sequential read and 531 MB/s sequential read.
Based on the 4K-64Thrd values from ASSSD we can calculate the IOPS. In this case we get 50'488 IOPS for random read and 62'855 IOPS for random write, which also is way less than advertised.
We're curious whether or not ASUS is going to release a firmware update for this drive, since two SSDs in RAID0, using a SandForce SF-2281 controller are capable of delivering faster results.
