AMD's 2015 Radeon graphics roadmap leaked

No R9 380X, R7 370X or R7 360X

According to the latest leaked AMD 2015 Radeon graphics roadmap it appears that we will not see many graphics cards in the lineup and that it will include few re-brands, some improved chips and a single new Fiji GPU.

Posted by Videocardz.com, the roadmap shows that an improved Hawaii GPU, which will get a new Grenada codename, will be behind the R9 390X (Grenada XT) and behind the R9 390 (Grenada Pro). It is most likely that R9 390X will come with standard 8GB of memory while the R9 390 will be limited to 4GB of GDDR5 memory.

According to the roadmap placement, it appears that R9 390X and R9 390 are simply a rebrand of the Radeon R9 290X and R9 290, although few sources have suggested that we are looking at an improved chip. Unfortunately, there are no details regarding those "improvements".

The R9 390X will probably directly compete with the Geforce GTX 970 while the R9 390 will fill the gap between the GTX 970 and the GTX 960.

The earlier Radeon R9 280 series featured two chips, old Tahiti GPU which was based on older Graphics Core Next architecture and new Tonga GPU with GCN 1.2 architecture. According to the roadmap, the R9 380 appears to be a direct rebrand of that Tonga GPU based R9 285 and earlier rumors suggested that R9 285 was based on Tonga Pro GPU so AMD has enough room to introduce the R9 380X with Tonga XT GPU at a later date. The R9 380 is expected to directly compete with the GTX 960.

Same thing goes for the Radeon R7 lineup as it will feature only the R7 370 and R7 360 graphics cards. The R7 370 is based on Trinidad GPU, which is a rebranded Curacao GPU. The R7 360 on the other hand is based on Tobago GPU, which is a rebranded Bonaire GPU. The last graphics card in the lineup is the Radeon R7 250 which will remain as it is.

This roadmap pretty much confirms earlier rumors that the Fiji GPU is the only new chip in AMD's lineup but we still do not know what kind of improvements AMD implemented for those older GPUs, although we suspect that we might just see higher clocks, compared to the Radeon 200 series lineup.

AMD is expected to launch its Radeon 300 series on a dedicated event which will be held on a sideline of E3 2015 show on June 16th.
