Yesterday night ocaholic's Christian Ney started to dig into the latest bug with Windows 8, discovered by hwbot.org. His approach was to find auf wether AMD and Intel systems are affected by the RTC issues or not and he found out something particularly interesting.
In total ocaholic's Christian Ney tested six different platforms, which were the following configurations: Windows 8 and Haswell, Windows 7 and Haswell, Windows 8 and and Trinity, Windows 8 and LGA775, Windows 8 and AM3, Windows 8 and Ivy Bridge as well as Windows 8 and Sandy Bridge.
Judgding by the results he could determine, that the RTC Bug gets triggered only with the combination of Windows 8 and Intel. In case of AMD systems, which were based on FM2 processors as well as AM3 chips, he hasn't been able to replicate the issue. All the bechmarks he ran showed the correct results and weren't influence positively by downclocking the CPU.
Now the question remains, what is different when it comes to Intel systems compared to AMD, that could trigger this bug within Windows 8. So far one thing is for sure, it's not only Microsoft who is to blame. It looks like Intel plays a role in this game too and could also be of help solving this issue. In any case, we're curious to read more on this matter. Since, there are lots of tester investigating this issue right now, we're certain that more news will follow soon.
