Conclusion

The
first impression we got from the Gigabyte Z77X-UP4TH is good. We liked
the decent design. There are no fancy and flashy colors. Instead
Gigabyte chose a black PCB and mixes it up with two grey DIMM slots and
some more grey and a little blue on the heatsinks. A closer look show
that the manufacturer has been saving money in not equipping this board
with lots of features. This is the reason why Gigabyte has been able to
price this board highly competitive. Something we would wish to be
changed, concerns the mSATA port. We would love to see it have a
SATA-III interface, since meanwhile there are quite a few good mSATA
drives out there that support the latest SATA standard. |

Basically the Gigabyte Z77X-UP4TH's Layout has been
very well thought. Once more practical are the angled SATA connectors.
Unfortunately there are no power and reset buttons and there is also no
debug LED. In case of this board this isn't a big minus, since it is
well priced and it's been designed to fit the needs of well performing
office and multi media PCs. Something that needs to be mentioned is the
fact that only the first of the three full size PCI Express x16 slots
has been wired with all 16 lanes. The second slot is attached using
eight lanes and the third full size slot has been attached using four
lanes. On the other hand there are the two Thunderbolt port located at
the I/O panel which allow attaching ultra fast peripherals. These two
ports are also the reason that less than usual PCI Express lanes have
been wired to the expansion slots.
