Technical data / specifications
The Radeon HD 5550 is powered by the Redwood LE graphics processor
which differs from the Redwood Pro that powers the Radeon HD 5570. Indeed, the
HD 5550 has only 320 SP and 550 MHz on the core while the HD 5570 is running at
650 MHz with 400SP. Anyway, these graphics processors are
based on the RV870 and target entry market segment. Despite the fact that this card is part of the
entry level market, Asus designed his own PCB which provides a red color
with a single slot cooling system and a low profile PCB while the reference card
designed by ATI/AMD uses a dual slot cooler and a full size PCB. Unfortunately
the
EAH5550's cooler isn't that silent, we even have to say that it's really noisy as
it appears to not be regulated by the BIOS and not Asus' SmartDoctor software. To
come
back to the specs, DirectX 11 compatibility and 40 nm process, the card is
powered by 8 ROP and 320 Shader Units with GDDR3 memory using a 128Bit bus wide
interface.
