Conclusion
Announcement:
Despite the circumstance that the rating of a product is based on as many
objective facts as possible there are factors which can have an influence on a
rating after publication. Every autor may perceive data differently over time
whereas one possible reason for example is a deeper background knowledge or
understanding of certain processes. Certain unforseen market conditions as well
as changes have the potential to render a descision made at a certain point in
time obsolete.
With the Vector 150, OCZ has a new line of solid state drives, which can
certainly convince regarding performance as well as reliability and endurance,
but all this comes at a price, meaning the Vector 150 drives are not going to be
cheap. Maybe time will change the price a bit over time, but we don't expect the
Vector 150 to become a bargain soon. We also don't think that it's OCZs
intention to offer the cheapest drive possible with the Vector 150, since in
this case it really wouldn't make sense at all to place this SSD's PCB in a
rather heavy aluminium case. We think the exact opposite is the case and OCZ
wants to prove on every aspect that they've learnt from the past and they want
to offer high quality, high performance products. A closer look at endurance
figures shows, that the Vector 150 should be able to cope with up to 50 Gigabyte
written per day, which is a 150 percent increase over the original Vector drive
from one year ago. Compared to the competition OCZ is doing well with this
amount of GB per day.
Now it's about time we start talking about performance. There is no doubt the
Vector 150 is a fast drive. In our tests the drive was able to perform with
534 MB/s
sequential write and 547 MB/s sequential read throughput. When it comes to 4K
IOPS we measured 89'500 IOPS regarding random read and 81'000 regarding
random write. There is really nothing we could complain regarding performance.
Almost 90'000 IOPS and sequential throughputs which are maxing out the SATA
interface are what performance figures should look like.
Last but not least this leaves us talking about the price. The 240 Gigabyte
version we tested here features a recommended retail price of 239.99 US-Dollar,
which really isn't cheap, but nevertheless we're quite curious to see how the
price will drop in the upcoming few months after the launch.
Recommendation
Should you be looking
for a quick 240 Gigabyte SSD with attractive reliability figures, then you
should definitely consider the Vector 150.
