Connectors and I/O

In total ASUS equipped the Gryphon Z87 with six angled SATA ports. All ports offer 6Gbps bandwidth and they are natively wired to the Z87 PCH. Unfortunately there are no practical onboard power- and reset-buttons on this board and there is also no debug display. There are exactly three buttons on this board: a BIOS set back button, a direct key button as well as a mem OK button. A closer look at the onboard audio chip reveals, that ASUS equipped the Gryphon Z87 with an ALC892, which is enough to play a game from time to time or listen to music on an desktop system.

Totally you'll find seven fan header on the Gryphon Z87 which is more than enough, to provide a well equipped mATX system with fresh air. The fan headers are located around the CPU socket as spread over the motherboard. ASUS decided to use 4-pin PWM headers in six out of the seven cases. Therefore it is possible to adjust rotation speed in the BIOS or in Windows. There is only one 3-pin header.

Looking at the external connectors directly at the back-panel ASUS equipped the Gryphon Z87 with four USB 3.0/2.0 ports, four USB 2.0/1.1 ports, one gigabit ethernet port, an HDMI connector, a DVI out as well as an optical out and an analogue audio panel.
