Conclusion
Build quality
The overall build quality is on a good level, plastics are strong and solid despite some imperfections that are present and can be felt. The USB cable as well as the connector are of excellent quality.
In this case you get a sleeved cable and gold-plated plug.
Design
The design is entirely new and with its congruent
angles and parallel lines it reminds us of vehicles found in sci-fi movies.
Overall never gets boring and it's nice to look at this mouse. Another great
addition are the four LED's which feature fully customizable LED's. Doing those
customization is a matter of minutes and therefore very easy.
Software
After installing the software
we found it to be well structured and easy to use. We liked the possibility to import and export profiles, which is very useful in case of backup or sharing with friends. One note about the lack of integration with other Tesoro software: each device creates its own icon in the tray bar, so if you have a mouse and keyboard you will have two icons displayed. In the end we would love to see two things changed: first of all there is the software integration and the second thing concerns the fact, that apart from the software, you just don't get a hint which DPI setting you're using when the software is in the tray icon.
Perfomance
The optical sensor Avago-3090
offers up to 3500 DPI resolution, which is not sky high but still on a
competitive level and for an optical sensor state-of-the-art. The Gungnir H5
handles quick movements and sudden changes of direction with ease. Thanks to the
fact, that Tesoro equipped this mouse with Omron switches, they should survive
more than five million clicks, which is actually quite a lot. Flipping this
rodent on its back reveals two huge gliding pads, which allow smooth and even
gliding characteristics on all surfaces and thanks to theses pads being made
from teflon it will take ages until they're worn out. If we had to look for
flaws, then the only thing would be the placement of the two buttons to change
the DPI resolution. We would have love to see them in a position where it's
easier to access them.
Price
For as less as 39 Euro
you get a mouse which can even compete with high-end products. It's not
absolutely perfect but with the Gungnir H5 you get an excellent combination of
price and performance. Obviously with its purple surface this mouse wont be
everybodies darling, but still it's a very decent piece of hardware.
Tesoro's Gungnir gets
four out of five stars.
