After the SHRIKE HL2, Tesoro added another gaming mouse to their portfolio, which comes with a new design and new features. Tesoro equipped the Gungnir with seven buttons and uses an optical sensor capable of reaching up to 3500 DPI resolution. Usually these specifications are not really impressive but combined with a unique design and a competitive price tag, the Gungnir seems to be a very interesting product.
On the following pages we will show you the strengths and weaknesses of the Tesoro Gungnir H5.

Closer Look
When
looking at this mouse from a birds perspective, we see several parallel lines
and congruent angles and combined with high quality plastics, which offers an
even surface, you get decent looks with an individual design. If you run your
hand over all the different corners and edges you feel not everything is built
absolutely perfect, but overall it feels good. On the front as well as on the
back of the mouse you find fully customizable LED's, which look like a cars
headlights. The colors of the Gungnir are in sharp contrast to the previous
model produced by Tesoro and the overall design is completely different, in fact
the mouse is thinner and has more of a rectangular appearance. The shape and
arrangement of the buttons make this product asymmetrical and thus exclusive to
right-handed users. When hovering over the scroll whell it feels soft and quiet
and there is good tactile feedback. Next to the mouse wheel you find the two
additional buttons, which allow you to se the resolution you want.
Bottom side and weight stones
The optical sensor is set to 900
DPI by default but if you like to can go all the way up to 3500 DPI, whereas
there are four steps: 450, 900, 1800 and 3500 DPI. Furthermore the Gungnir is
capable of tracking surfaces while being accelerated with up to 20 G or in other
words at a speed of 60 IPS (inches per second). Flipping the mouse, makes us
discover two big, black glide pads, which make sure, that this mouse hovers over
surfaces in an even manner. Despite being a gaming mouse you can't adjust the weight, however, it's well balanced and very light,
which makes it nimble and agile. The cable, which is 1.8 meters in length has
been sleeves and the USB connector features a gold plated surface.

Software
Included
in the box you find an installation CD. We have to say, we actually like this, since most of the manufacturers can't be bothered with this anymore, but sometimes it would just be great if you don't have to go the manufacturers website first to get the latest drivers. On the other hand we for sure recommend to check whether there is an updated version of the software available for download or not.
The software GUI's is perfectly in line with the attractive design of the mouse
and it's practical and easy to use. With this software, you can configure and
save up to 35 macros. The settings can be exported and imported, which is useful if you want to compare your settings with those of your friends.

Conclusion
Build quality
The overall build quality is on a good level, plastics are strong and solid despite some imperfections that are present and can be felt. The USB cable as well as the connector are of excellent quality.
In this case you get a sleeved cable and gold-plated plug.
Design
The design is entirely new and with its congruent
angles and parallel lines it reminds us of vehicles found in sci-fi movies.
Overall never gets boring and it's nice to look at this mouse. Another great
addition are the four LED's which feature fully customizable LED's. Doing those
customization is a matter of minutes and therefore very easy.
Software
After installing the software
we found it to be well structured and easy to use. We liked the possibility to import and export profiles, which is very useful in case of backup or sharing with friends. One note about the lack of integration with other Tesoro software: each device creates its own icon in the tray bar, so if you have a mouse and keyboard you will have two icons displayed. In the end we would love to see two things changed: first of all there is the software integration and the second thing concerns the fact, that apart from the software, you just don't get a hint which DPI setting you're using when the software is in the tray icon.
Perfomance
The optical sensor Avago-3090
offers up to 3500 DPI resolution, which is not sky high but still on a
competitive level and for an optical sensor state-of-the-art. The Gungnir H5
handles quick movements and sudden changes of direction with ease. Thanks to the
fact, that Tesoro equipped this mouse with Omron switches, they should survive
more than five million clicks, which is actually quite a lot. Flipping this
rodent on its back reveals two huge gliding pads, which allow smooth and even
gliding characteristics on all surfaces and thanks to theses pads being made
from teflon it will take ages until they're worn out. If we had to look for
flaws, then the only thing would be the placement of the two buttons to change
the DPI resolution. We would have love to see them in a position where it's
easier to access them.
Price
For as less as 39 Euro
you get a mouse which can even compete with high-end products. It's not
absolutely perfect but with the Gungnir H5 you get an excellent combination of
price and performance. Obviously with its purple surface this mouse wont be
everybodies darling, but still it's a very decent piece of hardware.
Tesoro's Gungnir gets
four out of five stars.
