On mass production

Micron has started volume production of next-generation GDDR6 memory. The company specifically says it has started mass production of 8Gb memory chips (1GB). According to latest rumors, the initial GDDR6 memory will come with speeds ranging from 10 to 14 Gbps with 1.25 or 1.35 voltage.

No impact on the production

During the past few days there were rumors that Micron had to shut down their Fab-2. According to the rumors, the production had to be stopped after a major incident, where wafers and equipment were contaminated. In a statement Micron mentioned that this hiccup hasn’t had an impact on the actual production.

Competition to Intel

During its keynote speach at Flash Memory Summit, Micron has unveiled its own branding for the 3D XPoint memory, the Micron QuantX.

Coming in M.2 and 2.5-inch form-factors

Micron has announced its first client and OEM oriented solid-state drives based on 3D NAND, the Micron 1100 and Micron 2100.

Nvidia first to have it

Following Nvidia's announcement of the new GTX 1080 with GDDR5X memory, Micron has now announced that its new GDDR5X memory has entered mass production, which suggest that there should be no supply constraints for the new generation GPUs.

Coming in April

Micron has jumped the gun and has officially announced its newest consumer MX300 SSD with TLC 3D V-NAND.

For enterprise market

Micron has unveiled two new enterprise PCI-Express NVMe SSDs based on the latest 16nm MLC NAND, the Micron 9100 and 7100 series SSDs.

First chips heading to customers

As expected according to the earlier schedule, Micron has started sampling its next-generation GDDR5X memory chips to customers.

1000 times faster than NAND and non-volatile

If we were to believe in marketing material from Intel/Micron, 3D XPoint could almost be the holy grail in storage. It's fast, cheaper than DRAM and non-volatile, making it ideal for performance-hungry applications. Meanwhile Micron has released new information on when first products are going to be launched and there is also an outlook on how the market should develop.

Volume production coming this summer

Micron Technology has announced a new early report regarding the production of GDDR5X memory chips. The report includes some rather impressive and promising results, while high-volume production is expected in mid-2016.

No details on GDDR6

While we have previously seen some details regarding GDDR5X memory, recent rumors regarding GDDR6 memory has suggested that GDDR5X might have been rebranded. That appears not to be the case as Micron has confirmed that GDDR5X is coming next year.

Double the bandwidth of GDDR5

According to the latest report, Micron is preparing GDDR6 memory, which will offer twice the bandwidth of GDDR5 memory and be company's answer to High Bandwidth Memory from Hynix.

Gets advanced SSD controllers in the process

Micron Technology, a well known manufacturer of both DRAM and NAND flash memory, and the company behind Crucial and Lexar, has acquired a small company called Tidal System, a company that produces SSD controllers.

Next year

During its financial call for the third quarter of financial 2015 year, Micron also shed some details regarding its future solid-state drive plans, including the fact that it expects that over 50 percent SSDs to be based on TLC NAND in 2016.

GDDR5 still going strong

Micron Technology has announced that it has started shipping its first GDDR5 memory chips based on 20nm-class manufacturing process, including 8Gb GDDR5 chips.

32-layer 256Gb MLC and 384Gb TLC NAND

Micron and Intel have announced that it has started sampling the new 256Gb MLC 3D NAND flash memory to its partners and plans to start sampling 384Gb TLC 3D NAND later this spring.

To focus on next-gen SAS SSDs

Micron Technology and Seagate Technology have announced a new strategic agreement that establishes a framework of combining the innovation and expertise of both companies and will enable customers of these two companies to benefit from a focused approach to deliver new storage solutions.

With dynamic SLC cache

Micron has announced its next generation of client-class solid state drives, the M600 SSD series. The new M600 SSDs will, according to the company, set a new bar for low-power, high-performance storage for personal computers. To be available in a couple of different form factors as well as couple of capacities depending on the form-factor, the new Micron M600 SSD series will also offer some new feature as well as better power efficiency.

Brings 32GB RDIMM modules

Micron Technology has announced the introduction of a monolithic 8Gb DDR3 SDRAM component based on Micron's latest 25nm DRAM manufacturing process.

Micron reduced supplies

According to the report coming from Digitimes.com, we might be on the verge of SSD price wars as Micron Technology has reportedly reduced supplies of NAND flash chips to other manufacturers.
