Ghetto/make shift Mods #1
Gentlemen, I'm starting up a thread for mods that don't quite make it into competitions, or 'Rig of the Day'. Actually, this thread is for mods, etc, that have NO CHANCE IN HELL of making it to any of those things

I'll start with something that I did last night

So, first up, I'm terrible at concentrating on one thing. I get so easily distracted!
Last night started off as me taking my computer out and putting the mobo etc on my desk so I could get back to clocking and benching (as per this thread), of course, I didn't get that done as I got completely distracted. I ended up moving my DAC and HeadAmp, and then decided to clean up my small network space. This space consists of a Cable modem, a Lynksys WiFi router, an 8 port Netgear gigabit switch, and a shitty Xtreamer thing that I use purely as a NAS. The Xtreamer had a small 40mm fan on it which annoyed the absolute bollocks out of me :S So I took the entire thing out of it's case and just had it sitting on the floor fanless.

For quite some time, I've been wanting to put all those bits into some box to make it all look a little neater. I also wanted to put a fan there to blow some air through the entire setup, to keep it kinda cool... (lots of Electronics in a sealed box isn't soo good...)
I didn't have any actual boxes, but saw accross the room an empty Quöllfrisch Naturtrüb 10 pack carton. The master plan was set! I'll combine my love for neatness *Coughbullshitcough* with my love for BEER!!!

Opening the carton up, I 'VERY CAREFULLY' planned out my mod. Throwing everything in there I closed up the box to do a real quick test fit. The I got my very precise combat knife and started hacking holes into it. I wanted the IR receiver poking out the front so I could turn the NAS on and off, and I used the carry handle hole for the power and network cables As this was a pretty Ghetto mod, taking all of about 2 hours (many beer breaks included) I didn't make any custom cables, Except for one!
I had a 120mm fan and thought it'd be perfect, the only issue was, that I had nowhere to plug it in. So, I cut the 40mm fan connector off and soldered it to a male version of the typical 3 pin fan connetor. I was set!! I put everything into the box and begun sealing it up. I tried to connect with my laptop to make sure it all worked, and of course, it didn't... cutting some more holes in the back of my box so I could stick a finger in, I turned things on and off, and still nothing! I think thought I'd try connect with a network cable instead of wireless, to see if that worked. The only problem was, I couldn't find the other end of that bloody Cat6 that I had plugged in...
In my semi drunked state, it took me a good 15 minutes to figure out that I had plugged that cable in twice, and that Network cables only have 2 ends. Everything was becomming clear! After unplugging one end of the Cat6 from the Switch, my entire Network came to life, and I was a happy chappy. I pushed the box into a corner and drank a beer whilst admiring my handy work
Which, you can see here

Re: Ghetto/make shift Mods #3
Hey Guys

So I'm deciding to extend this thread a little to include random ghetto mods you've seen around the interwebs. if you want to post up some pics and/or story, please specify whether it's your own handy work, or simply something you found online

Here's a pic of what looks to be a mining rig. Who says you can't make use of old crates aye?

I think a pic of the Ocaholic rigs would be perfect for this thread 3930K on RIVE @4.5ghz - 16gb Gskill Ripjaw Z - 780 Ghz Edition - Corsair AX850 - assorted SSD's and Mech drives.
