I am a sucker for a well designed aluminum chassis and Lian Li have always been one of the pioneers in this sector. They recently updated their fantastic Q series of compact enclosures with the PC-Q11.
2010 has been a fantastic year for quality chassis design and today we are going to have our first look at a chassis from Xigmatek, a company better known for their coolers and power supplies.
A little less than one year ago, Corsair decided to expand into the PC case market. Their first offering, the full-tower Obsidian 800D, carried a heavy price tag (USD 300) and didn't get our stamp of approval, even though it brought tons of features. Now Corsair is offering a brand new mid-tower case, the Graphite Series 600T, at a more affordable price, but carrying features usually found only on more expensive, full-tower models. Let's see if Corsair has finally hit bull's eye.
If you're going to spend the time and money to build your own computer then why not house it in a case that's well made and stylish like the one from Lian Li. Today for review I've got the Lian Li PC-8FI Aluminum case, and I've got to say that it's very much true what they say about cases from Lian Li, they truly are of high quality and top notch design. This case features a tool less design and an all aluminum construction that's lightweight yet durable and good looking.
Based in Taiwan BitFenix are a reasonably new company however some of their key employees have a huge amount of experience in creating enthusiast products for other manufacturers. Their new venture started a couple of months ago with the Colossus case with many of the initial reviews focusing on the original black model. However, like many manufacturers, BitFenix are also offering a white version of the case and it is that model which we have on our test bench today.
I am a huge fan of leaving my case on my desktop for easy access to all the innards, but every once in a while I really ponder moving to a much smaller rig for my day to day use. With the advances in m-ITX motherboards for low power HTPC usage alongside the advances in m-ATX and the ability to overclock even on a tiny motherboard, something like one of these paired with let's say a GTX 460, and I could have the best of everything and still be able to game pretty well. Now the question comes to mind, what case do I house it all in?
The wonderful thing with the PC game is that while the huge firms always stick around - unless they're bought by another - smaller ones tend to come and go, which keeps the industry relatively fresh faced; at least in certain areas. One that sees a revamp every now and again is the chassis market; which is important, as innovation can often be hard to come by.
