Today Cooler Master return to the Cosmos family with the launch of the Cosmos 2. This ultra tower chassis features aspects which remind us of the original Cosmos from 2007 but Cooler Master have brought it right up to date with more advanced features and an evolved design. We have one on our test bench so let's see what the case has to offer.
The new Cosmos II is a huge and heavy (48.5 lbs or 22 kg) full-tower case, dubbed "ultra tower" by the manufacturer. It comes with all the features you can imagine, such as support for big motherboards (E-ATX, XL-ATX, SSI CEB, and SSI EEB), a big radiator for liquid cooling solutions, and 10 expansion slots. Its price tag is also heavy: USD 350. Let's explore this new release.
In computer cases, it's a constant battle between price, function, and style-- as the saying goes, "Pick any two". There are any number of very servicable cases available at $100 or less; if you have $150 in your case budget, you can choose from some excellent full tower cases; and if you have $250 to spend on a case, you can get almost any combination of function and style you could ever want. The Cooler Master Cosmos II is definitely a case for those who won't settle for the run-of-the-mill. It is an extremely well thought out case that combines great convenience features with appealing aesthetics, and low noise/high performance cooling. In the end I have to agree with Cooler Master's assessment that it was "inspired by luxurious supercars".

Today Cooler Master are launching their successor to the ever popular Cosmos computer case, an enthusiast favourite now for many years. The Cosmos II is an updated version, brought screaming and kicking into 2012 with a radical new design. The Cosmos II is classed as an ‘Ultra Tower’ measuring a staggering 344 x 704 x 664 mm, able to handle the biggest graphics cards, CPU coolers and watercooling kits. We loved the Cooler Master Storm Trooper case when we reviewed it in November, so we have high hopes that Cooler Master will start 2012 on a very high note.
Cooler Master is known for some edgy cases that hit the sweet spot for gamers looking to have aggressive styling in their rig. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past several months, you’ve no doubt seen this chassis online or perhaps even at your local hardware retailer or LAN party (although I pity the person responsible for lugging this heavyweight anywhere outside of their house). Cooler Master showcased what they call the Ultra Tower at CES and it goes without saying that it was the most impressive computer case I saw during my week in Las Vegas. We've been anxious to get this chassis on the test bench to see if it lives up to the hype.
Cooler Master sent me this case about a week or so ago, and said "keep this a secret until the beginning of January." Well, it has taken every restraint I can muster not to fill the forums of many sites with images of this beast. As you read in the title, Cooler Master has taken yet another crack and making the ultimate chassis to wear the Cosmos moniker. This time, as I see it, Cooler Master went back to step one and did a complete redesign of the original, just that this time it seems there is a no hold barred approach to delivering solutions to all of the past issues, adding a ton of features while re-engineering others, and delivering a new Cosmos that resembles the original, but definitely makes its own statement when in the room.
When Cooler Master released the Cosmos case a few years ago it was truly something new and revolutionary. They followed it up with the Cosmos S, which gave it a more streamlined look and took away the front door. Our own staff member Colin Dean still uses that case to this day. Back in 2011 at CES we saw a prototype of the new Cosmos that Cooler Master was going to release later in the year. We were excited, but we had no clue when it was going to be released. Right before CES this year Cooler Master announced the Cosmos II. A massive case with support for up to 13 hard drives, 5 included fans with support for up to 10 fans, 2 hot swap hard drive bays, and it can fit motherboards up to XL-ATX.
