The SilverStone Grandia GD05 has taken mATX desktop HTPC cases to a new level. The Grandia gives its owner an incredible amount of flexibility. If you want a powerful graphics card, you have more than enough space to fit one in. If you want to buy a super silent ATX power supply, then go right ahead as it’ll fit. If you need a couple terabytes of space, you have room for two hard drives and even a third if you find a 5.25″ to 3.5″ bay converter. Generally we find HTPC cases making one sacrifice for the benefit of another. Not the case with the GD05.
Today we are taking a look at one of the newest HTPC cases from SilverStone, the Grandia GD05. The Grandia GD05 is a shallow depth case that can hold standard parts and full size video cards up to 11”. So join us as we take a closer look at the Grandia GD05.
HTPCs (Home Theater PCs) are targeted to users that want a computer connected to their home theater system to watch movies and videos, listen to songs, and play games. Since this kind of computer will usually be physically installed together with your home theater equipment, HTPC cases usually have the same size and color of home theater receivers, so your computer will look like standard home theater equipment.
Even though there is a vast number of enthusiast PC cases on the market these days, your choice is far more limited if you're looking for a HTPC chassis. There are far fewer manufacturers who actually produce HTPC cases, and they can also be very expensive.
Today we are going to look at the Silverstone Grandia GD07 which shares a number of design similarities with the GD06 with the notable addition of ATX motherboard support. The rest of the specification is also impressive as the unit features plenty of hard drive bays and cooling options.
Silverstone have always specialised in producing small-form-factor cases which tend to the needs of the HTPC and server market. Featuring a revised drive configuration amongst other upgrades, is Silverstone’s newest addition to the Grandia series, the GD08, able to follow the path of success forged by its ancestors?
The Media PC market has been thriving in the last year with leading manufacturers such as Lian Li releasing a raft of capable, attractive chassis designs specifically for this audience. Today we are looking at the Silverstone Grandia Series GD06 Chassis which builds on the GD04 and GD05 heritage.
In recent years there has been a steady increase in the number of case forms that are available on the market andthis is driven by the end user trends. Going back a few years, HTPC and small form factor (SFF) cases were rarely seen and those that did exist on the market were expensive in comparison to the mainstream options. As time has gone on and we come forward to where we are today, the market has become more diluted with the different shapes, sizes and styles of cases - ranging from the m-ATX options which pack as much as they can into as little space as possible right upto the E-ATX cases that have enough room to fit hypothetically more than one system into.
In the more recent years and with the digital age now more mainstream than ever, personal computers are used more and more for home entertainment centres. This has in itself opened up a whole new new sector to the HTPC market, in the past a HTPC was typically a low power machine that played video content with out any real demand placed on the system. The modern HTPC however demands more with the streamlining of high definition content. No longer will a budget all in one board with onboard graphics cut the mustard. Discrete graphics are being called for and this poses a problem with a majority of HTPC designs that can only occupy low profile expansion cards.
Today we get the chance to look at Silverstone's new Alpha male in their Grandia HTPC line up, the GD06. As with the majority of the Grandia range the design has been fine tuned and refined to give the best performance and design, improving what the consumer needs & likes and taking out what they don't - such as the small LCD panel on the front.
Today we have the pleasure of going over another chassis from SilverStone with a fine tooth comb. There have been previous models in the Grandia chassis segment, all designed to deliver an attractive solution to add to your living room or home theater. Over time SilverStone has seen what works and what doesn't, and in this example, being the current top dog in the lineup, the GD06 has a little bit of everything while doing away with things like a tiny LCD you couldn't see across the room anyways.
The home theater PC (HTPC) market is still very big and almost everyone I know these days have some sort of computer connected to their TV.
