Up for review today I’ve got another PC case called the Evolution and it’s from a company called Cougar. This case is not exactly what I would call expensive coming in at around $100, but it’s got plenty of features that even enthusiast users can appreciate like room for large video cards, and SATA dock built-in and a removable hard drive cage. The case is all black, inside and out and it features a built-in fan controller for up to six fans to keep your system cool and quiet.

While Cougar is a well-known manufacturer of Power Supplies, you may have not yet seen many Cougar Chassis’ on the market. Currently they have five models to purchase; the Cougar Solution, Volant, 6XR9, Evolution and the Evolution Galaxy. The Cougar Evolution Chassis was released at the end of last year and is trying to cram in many features into a fairly small case. While it classes itself as a ‘Full Tower ATX case’ it is more in the league of a mid tower and in fact is no bigger than the CM 690 II chassis.

The Cougar Evolution is a mid-tower case with interesting features such as a hot-swap docking station and two-channel fan controller, offered for USD 110 in the US. Let’s check it out.

Choosing the right PC Case for both my test rigs or for the systems i sometimes build for close friends is really the very last thing on my mind since naturally i need to have all the hardware components laid out in front of me prior to that (when you have an for example an very long GPU like the GeForce GTX 690 or an XL-ATX mainboard you can't/shouldn't squeeze them inside a small/midi tower). Now for good or bad the market is currently filled with all sorts of PC cases ment to cover all tastes and requirements (space and features wise) so the possibility of not finding a suitable one is almost nonexistent something which i can't say for even just a decade ago. Personally as some of you know i always like to use full tower PC Cases because they offer enough interior space to mount even the largest hardware components without having to spend much time in the process and that's why i can't wait until the latest Obsidian 900D by Corsair reaches our doorstep in a couple of weeks. However for people who care not about having a PC case with lots of interior space and are not willing to spend much cash for one the latest Challenger Midi Tower by Cougar might just be the ideal solution.

I take a closer look at the extreme design of the Cougar Challenger PC Chassis
Cases
Cougar is on the prowl for glory in the mid-range case market with the feature-heavy Challenger. Employing thoughtful amenities generally associated with up-market cases, can Cougar use the Challenger to attack a price vs performance sweet-spot?
Cases
Cougar, who's only been on the market a mere five years, has started to develop a strong lineup of gaming cases, power supplies, fans and accessories behind their name. Their products are innovate and they aren't out there to litter the market with more "generic" gaming accessories. One of their latest releases was the Challenger gaming case. The Challenger has a radical design and comes in your choice of three colours (two of which are very vibrant!). The Challenger fits into the sub-$100 gaming case market with it's sticker price of around $72 CDN. With many features rivaling $100+ gaming cases, I'm excited to see if the Challenger will be a worthy alternative for when you don't want to break the bank.

The Challenger is the latest mid-tower case from Cougar, featuring an external docking bay and an unbeatable price. Let's see what the Challenger has to offer.

Ever since the popularity of PC building boomed, computer cases have enjoyed a certain uniformity. An overpowering number of consumers look for sleek, professional looking cases. This notion has remained in balance in the DIY culture, and remains so today. While it is tough to change that, Cougar hopes to add some extra variety by installing their new and inexpensive Challenger chassis into the market.
