CPU cooling is primarily dominated by air coolers, but recently a lot more interest has been placed on overclocking. This requires better CPU cooling and generally speaking overclocking enthusiasts tend to choose watercooling over the top end air coolers. However, with ever-improving heat dissipation technologies being applied to the latest air coolers can they win back some of the overclocking enthusiast market?
The tower format cooler with multi-heatpipes and large fin stacks has been a triumph for thermal solution companies alike far replacing the more traditional top-down cooler. One such company which still believes in the performance of this style of cooler and for its greater compatibility in smaller cases is Noctua. Their cooling solutions have earned them a highly regarded name and one such product that has contributed to this is their NH-C12P CPU cooler featuring a whopping 6 heatpipes and fins emanating directly from the base. Let’s see if the performance can keep up with the newer tower coolers which now dominate the market.
Aircooling
Performance wise, the NH-C12P is one of the best downdraft coolers available, and compares favorably with the better coolers on the market irrespective of design. In my book, the board cooling benefits of a downdraft cooler are well worth the minimal performance hit incurred. Opinions will vary on this point, and it will be up to the user to decide what's most desirable for a particular platform.

With the NH-C12P SE14, Noctua has another quality cooler that lives up to their reputation of quiet operation thanks in part to the included 140mm NF-P14 fan. The SecuFirm2 mounting hardware remains one of the easiest to install among high end coolers and cooling performance is good. Full compatibility with all current AMD and Intel sockets mean that no matter what CPU you have, the NH-C12P SE14 has you covered. The C-type design of the NH-C12P SE14 should allow for a wide range of motherboard and case compatibility.
With a new fan design featuring Noctua's Vortex-Control Notches and included Ultra Low Noise Adapters, the D14 is not only an awesomely effective cooler, but also extremely quiet at the same time. For those seeking a quality cooling solution without yielding up quite so much real estate, Noctua offers a revamped version of their popular NH-C12P, now designated the SE14. Included is the same NF-P14 140mm cooling fan found on the D14, coupled with what Noctua refers to as their "C-shaped" cooler, featuring six heatpipes connecting the copper base to a large array of aluminum fins oriented parallel to the motherboard.

Aus dem Hause Noctua erreichte uns in diesem Monat eine neue Produktvorstellung, der NH-C14 Premium-Kühler. Dabei handelt es sich um einen überarbeiteten NH-C12 Kühler, der nun mit zwei 140 mm Lüftern ausgestattet ist und somit zu den stärksten Topflow Kühlern zählen dürfte. Diesen Kühler haben wir uns etwas genauer angesehen.
Schon seit einigen Jahren herrscht praktisch Stagnation im Hause der Luftkühler. Die letzte große Schlacht lieferten sich zwei verschiedene Bauweisen: Towerkühler, mit parallel zum Mainboard verlaufendem Luftstrom, und Modelle in Top-Blow Bauweise, bei der die Hautplatine mit frischer Luft versorgt wird. Noctua is not a volume-based CPU cooler vendor but all of their CPU coolers are well designed and have a strong solid purpose of existence; not duplicating or competing with each others and they are continuing improving their products. Today we will have a look on Noctua latest CPU cooler; NH-C14 which is a similar version of NH-D14 but it is in C-type top-flow mode instead of vertical/tower mode.
