After reviewing the great performing Alpenföhn Peter VGA cooler I was heavily enthusiastic when they offered me to review their brand high end air cooler : the K2. For those that wonder where the name K2 comes from : the Mount K2 is the 2nd highest mountain in the world, right at the border of Pakistan and China. While the Mount Everest is still the highest one, mountain climbers categorize the K2 as the most difficult to conquer. This particular mountain is also known as Killer Mountain or Mount Doom. Mit dem ETS-T40 brachte Enermax vor kurzem einen Tower-Kühler auf den Markt, welcher in drei Varianten zu haben ist. Der erste Prozessorkühler von Enermax konnte dabei gerade durch eine sehr gute Verarbeitung punkten. Als Erweiterung des Produktportfolios im Bereich der Kühler bringt das Unternehmen aus Taiwan nun einen Top-Flow-Kühler auf den Markt, welcher in zwei Varianten zu haben ist. Neben dem EDT-T60-VD, welchen wir heute im Test haben, gibt es auch noch den EDT-T60-TB. Während die Kühlkörper selbst identisch sind, unterscheiden sich beide Kühler bei den mitgelieferten Lüftern und der Montage eben jener. So besitzt der EDT-T60 insgesamt sechs 6-mm-Heatpipes und wird mit einem 120-mm-Lüfter ausgeliefert. Vapour chambers and heatpipes work on the same principle, the difference is that vapour chambers are planar thermal devices that conduct heat in two dimensions. The two 19x3mm vapour chambers on the Coolermaster TPC-812 heatsink are double-stacked (one vapour chamber on top of three heatpipes), much like the Xigmatek Aegir. Since vapour chambers are planar devices this represents a more efficient application that piling tubular heatpipes on top of tubular heatpipes. Coolermaster's TPC-812 is the first CPU heatsink to pass our test bench employing both vapour chambers and heatpipes in one package.
