Phanteks are a brand that seem to have slipped under the eTeknix radar in our short existence since 2008. Yet Phanteks make some of the best fans and CPU coolers on the market, even if their range of products is quite limited. Phanteks are most for their PH-TC14PE CPU cooler, know as the NH-D14 killer to some, yet reviews were generally inconclusive and suggest that both PH-TC14PE an NH-D14 are on somewhat equal footing. Either way we are not here today to discuss the PH-TC14PE but Phanteks latest mid-range CPU cooler the PH-TC12DX.
In terms of specifications this unit is pretty standard for its price point. We’ve got a couple of 120mm PWM fans, four heat pipes and an average tower heatsink unit. Yet according to what Phanteks tell us there is a lot more to this heatsink than just that. With advanced P.A.T.S and C.P.S.C technologies, surely we should expect a level of performance that goes beyond what we’d expect from this type of cooler? Well that is for the review to reveal. When I think of Noctua I am reminded of their very large and powerful CPU coolers. These cooler have rivaled even some liquid cooling systems. Noctua knows cooling but these larger CPU coolers do not fit in all systems. That is why they have come up with the NH-U12S and NH-U14S which are guaranteed to fit in your system even if you have memory with larger heatspreaders. Today we are taking a look at Noctua’s NH-U12S. This cooler features a tower design with aluminum fins and a copper base and heatpipes. There is a single 120 mm Noctua NF-F12 PWM fan and the cooler uses Noctua’s SecurFirm2 mounting system for easy installation. Will this smaller cooler still provide the excellent cooling that we know Noctua for? Read on as we find out.

We're happy to say that based on the test results we have a new CPU cooler to add to our lists of favorites: the Thermalright True Spirit 140. When you compare it to the Gold Award winners from our large round-up, Thermalright has the best overall cooling performance and its noise production is on par with the rest.
