Zalman CNPS10X Optima heatsink is a fairly standard tower cooler in most respects; it offers pretty good thermal performance, accomodates a front and rear fan and has an exposed copper heatpipe base. The CNPS10X Optima CPU cooler stands 153mm tall so it should fit into most mid tower chassis and weighs in at moderate 630 grams.

When it comes to low profile heatsinks for miniPC/HTPC/MiniITX/bookPCs there aren't many options. With an eye towards the under populated low profile cooling segment, Zalman released the CNPS8900 Extreme; a 60mm tall, 121mm diameter low profile cooler built for compact cooling situations.

It's been a while since we have had a CPU cooler from Cooler Master on the test bench. Well, today we have the Cooler Master TPC 812 tower cooler. With the TPC 812 Cooler Master is pairing up Vertical Vapor Chambers with traditional heatpipes to improve performance. Join us as we see just how well the Cooler Master TPC 812 performs on our Intel LGA2011 test bench.

The two demands we place on a case fan - to displace as much air as possible while producing the least amount of noise - are inherently mutually exclusive. In order to move more air, a fan needs to rotate faster, which produces more sound. The easiest way to make a fan more silent is to make it turn slower, but this will of course influence the amount of air it displaces.
This is where smart designers come into the picture. Case fan manufacturers try to increase the volume of displaced air by changing the design and number of the blades. We have seen a wide variety of designs: fan blades with notches like a golf ball, blades with a slant, and serrated blades. Nothing is too crazy to try. For each new attempt the manufacturer has a (vaguely) scientific foundation of why that particular design is better. In the end, it’s the performance that counts.
The same applies to the bearings used in the fans, something we've examined previously. In addition to the tried-and-proven ball bearings and sleeve bearings there are now exotic derivations such as rifle bearings, twister bearings, and so on. The goal is always the same - less noise. Again, it’s not the design but the end result that is important.

The Frio OCK is one of Thermaltake’s most popular CPU coolers. The CPU cooler features a dual-tower heatsink design with 6 copper heatpipes and a very large copper CPU block. It comes with a removable shroud that has 2 large 130mm cooling fans attached to it. The fans have a VR fan knob that allows you to adjust the fan speeds. The FRIO OCK is compatible with all Intel sockets up to 2011 and AMD up to AM3. If you bought this cooler before Intel’s 2011 socket was released they will send you the 2011 installation hardware for free. Many people own this CPU cooler and we have been asked many times about the installation of the CPU cooler. So we have decided to make a video showing you how to install the Frio OCK. Read on to check it out.

The Noctua NH-L12 is a lower profile heatsink that stands 93mm tall and is a little over 130mm square. The heatsink comes with two fans; a 120mm NF-F12 PWM fan on top and a 92mm NF-B9 PWM fan tucked away beneath the fins. In a nod to being flexible, the top fan can be knocked off the NH-L12 to lower its height to 66mm for really compact computer cases if necessary. That's a far cry more compact than the typical 160mm tall tower heatsink!

Today we are going to look at the latest addition to their CPU cooler range, the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2 which is a refreshed version of the existing Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro which we reviewed here. This replaces the old model as the flagship of the Be Quiet! range with a few updates including an improved mounting system and larger fans.
