Vapour chambers and heatpipes work on the same principle, the difference is that vapour chambers are planar thermal devices that conduct heat in two dimensions. The two 19x3mm vapour chambers on the Coolermaster TPC-812 heatsink are double-stacked (one vapour chamber on top of three heatpipes), much like the Xigmatek Aegir. Since vapour chambers are planar devices this represents a more efficient application that piling tubular heatpipes on top of tubular heatpipes. Coolermaster's TPC-812 is the first CPU heatsink to pass our test bench employing both vapour chambers and heatpipes in one package.

Introducing the only cooler to currently offer vapor chamber cooling for CPUs, the TPC 812 from Cooler Master.

With the relatively recent introduction of our new LGA2011 CPU Cooler database based on our primary Intel Core i7 3930k some of you have asked if it's possible for us to test some of the older coolers i reviewed a long time ago. Unfortunately many of those are not LGA2011 compatible, at least not up until this moment and even if they were i simply lack the time to do something like that from scratch especially since that would also mean delaying tests/reviews of brand new products. However today we will be taking a look at a product which i also reviewed in the past and more specifically the NH-C14 high performance low-profile CPU Cooler by Noctua.

Deepcool's Ice Wind Pro heatsink is a rather novel CPU cooler for two unique qualities; 1) its heatpipe-to-fin arrangement and 2) the geometry of its leading and trailing fin edges. First off, rather than clusters of heatpipes at the left and right sides of the aluminum fin tower, the eight ends of the heatpipes are lined up straight in a row, 10mm apart, right down the middle of the heatsink. Secondly, the leading/trailing edges of the aluminum fin stack have five large, slightly arc'd diamond cut-outs parallel to the direction of the fins that break up the otherwise monolithic wall.

Phanteks delivers a C-style cooler to the lab for testing. Take a look at what the PH-TC14CS brings to CPU cooling.

The battle for the high end cooling throne has reached fever pitch this year. The Noctua NH D14 ruled supreme for a long time, although it recently had to make way for a new king, the Phanteks PH-TC14PE. Today we are looking at the latest flagship cooler from Thermaltake, The Frio Extreme. Is this a serious challenger for the top spot?

Does Prolimatech's MegahalemsRev. C have what it takes to battle with the CPU cooling bigboys?

Today we are taking a look at the Titan Fenrir Siberia Edition CPU cooler which has both horizontal and vertical heatsinks. As such there is clearly plenty of potential for extracting heat from the CPU, just like having two radiators in one room of your house it will greatly improve the heating effect.

Noctua is well known for their excellent cooling products, when it comes to the enthusiast end of things Noctua knows what it's doing that's for sure. Many of Noctua's products are aimed at the high-end or enthusiast user who likes to overclock their systems and get the most out of them. Not everybody falls into that category though and they just want a decent cooling solution for their CPU, one that's quality made and one that's quiet. I for one prefer both in my systems with quiet being one of the more important things on my list of requirements for a CPU cooler. Making products for enthusiasts usually means big, but Noctua has recently introduced a cooler that's surprisingly not aimed at the enthusiast market, or at least not the overclockers out there anyway. The Noctua NH-L12 is a low-profile style cooler meant for smaller systems like small form factor or HTPC where space is quite limited. The NH-L12 is meant to keep your CPU cooler but yet keep things running quiet. Let's continue on...
