Be quiet! has grown in leaps and bounds in the cooling field over the last couple of years, and the Dark Rock TF may be their crowning achievement at the moment. Following the rather awkward and disappointing Shadow Rock TF, my expectations weren’t all that high, and I couldn’t have been any further off the mark.

Last year I published a thermal paste review on HWBot Forums. In total I tested 26 different thermal pastes on air and also using liquid nitrogen at different temperatures. This year I invested about 300 hours to test 47 different pastes with air-cooling and liquid nitrogen for extreme cooling – safe to say that this is the biggest and most accurate thermal paste test ever.

Low profile does not mean low performance. Here is how this Noctua cooler compares

If you are the type of person that prefers to buy products from experienced companies then you won’t be hard-pressed by the manufacturer of the product in this review. Scythe has been around since 2002, that is thirteen years that sets them as one of the oldest and most experienced companies in the DIY PC market. This week, they have allowed Benchmark Reviews to take a look at some of their latest high performance coolers and today the spotlight falls on the Scythe Ashura, a compact 120 mm cooler which Scythe claims will pass our tests with flying colors.

When building a brand new computer choosing the right components is directly tied to the type of use ment for it so obviously you wouldn't use the same ones you'd use with the office system as you would with the one in your living room. Needless to say the same applies for the CPU cooler since a gaming oriented system would need one with a much higher cooling efficiency compared to that of an office system or even a HTPC. The downside however with really powerful CPU coolers is their massive size so if you wanted to place one inside a mITX/mATX case chances are you'd be out of luck. Well manufacturers know this all too well so for the past 2-3 years many of them have focused a lot in the design of compact CPU coolers with impressive cooling potential (for their size always). Noctua has already released several such models in the market but with their latest NH-D9L D-Type Tower Cooler they seem to be taking things one step further.

The Shadow Rock LP is a tower style heatsink that has been pushed over to orient the radiator parallel to the motherboard. This allows the heatsink to have similar surface area but with a much lower profile.

Not that long ago CRYORIG sent us their flagship R1 Ultimate CPU cooler, which not only impressed us, but had a lot of cool technologies and other things we had never saw on a CPU cooler before. Now we are moving on to their H5 Universal CPU cooler, which as the name suggest is a cooler that will give you 100% memory clearance on mainstream sockets. While the R1 Ultimate was a dual-tower cooler, the H5 Universal has a single tower, but still retains much of the surface area of the R1 with its large fin design. The cooler itself features CRYORIG’s Hive Fin structure design, Jet Fin Acceleration System, Heatpipe Convex-Align System, and XT140 140mm cooling fan. Will this cooler be able to live up to the performance of the R1 Ultimate? Let’s get it in our system and find out!

Chad checks in and tells us all about be quiet!'s Pure Rock CPU air cooler. He seems impressed by what you get for the modest price tag.
